Where to Stay in Nafpaktos Greece: Best Areas

View of Nafpaktos walls and port of the bottom two tiers of the town where most hotels are.

Nafpaktos and the surrounding area of Nafpaktia are genuine hidden gems in Western Greece.

So, international visitors and vacationing Greeks alike won’t find hotel chains here. Instead, hotels in Napfkatos are small independent properties, usually locally owned and operated.

Besides boutique hotels and suites, Nafpaktos accommodations include vacation rental apartments and villas.

The best areas to stay in Nafpkatos are its three main areas: historic Nafpkatos, modern Nafpaktos, and Nafpaktos beaches.

Where to Stay in Nafpaktos: Historic Nafpaktos

Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, Ottomans, Greeks, and tourists have always desired Nafpaktos’ strategic and spectacular position on the Corinthian Gulf.

So, Nafpaktos was and is a true kastropolis, that is, a castle town.

The historic town lies within five fortified tiers, encompassed by walls cascading downhill from Castle Nafpaktos to the Venetian Port.

The first and second tiers comprise the citadel of Castle Nafpaktos, crowning the steep hill.

Of course, Nafpaktos hotels and residences aren’t within the citadel. Because it’s a historic landmark and archaeological site.

Instead, Nafpaktos hotels, homes, and businesses begin within the third tier below the Main Gate of Castle Nafpaktos. These then continue down through the fourth and fifth tiers.

The fifth and final tier is the picturesque Port. The Venetian-walled harbor is the heart and soul of Nafpaktos.

The historic city center area around the Venetian Port is considered the best area for first-time visitors to stay in Nafpkatos.

Where to Stay in Nafpaktos: Modern Nafpkatos

Modern Nafpaktos begins just outside the ancient fortress walls. Visitors, residents, businesses, and traffic flow seamlessly between Nafpaktos Old Town and New Town.

Supermarkets, small businesses, schools, and local services line the streets. Vehicle parking is rather easier here than in Old Town.

However, the distinction of Modern Nafpkatos doesn’t mean only construction from the 20th century and 21st century.

Beyond the citadel walls is located a ruined Sanctuary of Asclepius the Healer. Asclepius is the mythological Greek god of medicine.

Modern Nafpaktos also hosts the swanky boutique hotel Asklipios Luxury Rooms. Read on for our honest hotel review.

Where to Stay in Nafpaktos: Nafpaktos Beaches

Two beautiful beaches with crystal waters stretch from Nafpaktos Venetian Port along the Corinthian Gulf:

Psani Beach runs west from the Port, and Gribovo Beach extends east from the Port.

A seafront promenade connects these beaches with Venetian Nafpaktos and modern Nafpaktos.

Bustling tavernas, cafes, and beach bars line the waterfront promenades – and playgrounds, too. Because Nafpaktos beaches are friendly environments for everyone.

Nafpkatos beaches are thus popular with locals and tourists alike, both for families with children and for couples.

Apollon Library Suites opened in 2016 as a luxury aparthotel in a renovated 19th-century building.

Location:

Apollon Library Suites commands a central location in the historic city center, only a few blocks from the lively and lovely Venetian harbor.

The hotel has no parking garage, and street parking can be challenging in this popular area. However, once you find a parking space, you can basically walk everywhere during your days and nights in Nafpaktos.

First Impressions:

The borrowing library at this central Hotel in Nafpaktos

Apollon Library Suites has two entrances. The impressive entrance is at 18 Geor. Athanasiadi Nova, which is quite a busy avenue.

On this side, the building presents an elegant façade of gray and white with black wrought-iron balconies.

The secondary entrance is at 2 Thermou, a nondescript alley behind the building.

This entrance usually has one short-term parking space reserved for luggage loading. It’s also closest to the hotel reception.

A few marble steps down from the Thermou entrance brings you into the hotel foyer with a bright yellow sofa.

The foyer flows into the reception area with a free-standing desk, lounge, library, and dining room. These handsome areas are refined with woodwork, photography, and artwork.

Apollon’s lending library provides a selection of books and newspapers in Greek, English, and other languages.

Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a tranquil tiled courtyard.

The quiet lounge and the garden courtyard invite you to relax and read – or work! – with a coffee or tea.

Accessibility:

A short flight of stairs is necessary at both hotel entrances and also to enter the elevator from the ground floor.

Guest Rooms:

Literary themed rooms in Apollon Library Suites Hotel in Nafpaktos - the Moby Dick room

Apollon luxury suites present different literary themes from famous books like Alice in Wonderland.

Murals, decorative accents, and reading materials underscore each particular theme of the twelve beautiful suites.

We booked the Premium One Bedroom Suite, themed to the classic adventure Moby Dick. The mural above the sofa aptly quotes the author Herman Melville: “It is not down on any map; true places never are.”

The seating area, fully equipped kitchenette, and separate bedroom with a queen bed make the suite feel like a home away from home.

The view from the bedroom window includes palm trees and the Venetian Castle Nafpaktos.

Furthermore, ample closets offer the opportunity to unpack, whether for a short or an extended stay.

The updated bathroom offers a walk-in shower with a glass enclosure. An old-fashioned wooden newspaper rack makes a charming towel bar.

Air conditioning and heating provide comfort in all seasons at Apollon Library Suites.

Dining:

Served in the chic dining room, Apollon’s excellent breakfast incorporates local seasonal ingredients and house-baked goods.

In your suite, the kitchenette includes all the equipment to prepare meals. And with Apollon’s central location, many popular restaurants, cafes, and coffeehouses are mere steps away.

WiFi and Work Space:

WiFi is strong and swift, with an Ookla speed rating of 42Mbps.

Since the suite is, in essence, a complete apartment, there are numerous electrical outlets and different options to open up your laptop. For example: the kitchen table, the coffee table, and a small desk.

Additionally, the WiFi works well in the lounge and also the quiet garden courtyard.

Special Notes:

The owner created this 3-star hotel in memory of her beloved late grandmother (γιαγιά). A female leader in hospitality, Grandmother owned the original Apollon, one of the first fine hotels in Nafpaktos, Greece.

Make sure to see her family photos in the dining room – delightful!
